Latest News

St Patrick's Day 2008-  The band took part in our first parade of the year by traveling to Downpatrick to take part in the St. Patrick's Day Cross Community Parade.  The band first attended this parade in 1995 and probably in these 13 years never has the weather been so good.  Despite being behind an American style lorry which found it necessary to blow its horn constantly the band played very well and received many rounds of applause from the large crowd.

Christmas 2007-  The Christmas period as normal was a busy time for the band.  The band played at various engagements in the area including entertaining shoppers in Banbridge Town and playing at the switch on of the Christmas tree lights in Loughbrickland where the band provided the music for the locals to sing Christmas carols.  On Christmas Day a group of members travelled round three care homes in Banbridge playing carols for the residents, staff and visitors.  The band then as as is tradition finished up playing in a well known local establishment where our music was greatly appreciated.

Rememberence Sunday 2007---As usual the band where very busy today. In the morning we accompanied Loughbrickland British legion to Glasker Pres Church. The parade was short and the band played well. In the afternoon we marched along with Banbridge Royal British Legion to the War Memorial where wreathes were laid and the proceeded to Banbridge Methodist Church. The band as usual performed to a high standard and had a good number on parade. After the service we made our way back to the British Legion. A good day was had by all.

Summer 2007---Unfortunately I did not get a chance to update the site very often this summer and for this I apologise.  The main news at the moment is that five new learners are starting on Wednesday 26th september which is a welcome bit of news for the band. The band had quite a busy summer season with parades and a couple of concerts in local nursing homes and as always were in attendance at the annual Seapatrick Parish Church fete. For the first time the band were absent from the last Saturday in August Royal Black parade. This was due to a lack of members that could attend and the fact that the parade was in Bangor which has proven in the past to be a very difficult parade for silver bands due to hills and distance. Hopefully next year the band will be on parade again but it does need a number of new members to fill its ranks.

Saturday 17th March 2007---We travelled to Downpatrick today to take part in the annual cross community St. Patricks day carnival. The band looked and sounded well on parade and gave a good account of itself and was well recieved along the parade route. The weather was fine just a bit cold but at least the rain held off for us.

Christmas Period 2006-------The band performed on a number of occaisions over the Christmas period. They took part in carol services in various churches and were also seen providing carols in the town during late night shopping.

Sunday 12th Novenber 2006- Rememberence Sunday today and as always the band had a busy schedule. We met at 9.45  in Scarva and paraded to church via the War Memorial with the Royal British Legion. In the afternoon the band met at the British Legion in Banbridge for the annual parade and service. This parade was well attended by the British Legion, Youth Groups, The Commons Silver Band and the public. We made our way to the War Memorial where there was a wreath laying ceremony and then marched on to the church. After a service in the church we returned to the British legion arriving there about 1700 hrs. It was a cold day and the band finished the parade in the dark(which can prove difficult to see the music) but this didn't affect the bands performance and as normal we gave a good account of ourselves.

Saturday 26th August 2006--This was the annual Last Saturday In August Royal Black parade and this year it took place in Saintfield. The day started early with the band meeting up with RBP 27 at Banbridge Orange Hall at 8:45. The whole district paraded the town and then boarded buses to Saintfield. On arrival at Saintfield we made our way to the assembly field where everyone had time for a burger and a coke before the main parade started at 12 noon. There was a good crowd in Saintfield and as usual the band gave a good account of itself and the sound of The Star of Co Down in Saintfield main Street went down well. We then had a couple of hours rest in the field before parading back to the buses. A good day was had by all and the weather was very kind to us.

Saturday 19th August 2006--This evening Banbridge Silver, St. Marks and The Commons Silver Bands provided music for the 75th Aniversary of the Loughbrickland Royal British Legion. Each band took it in turn to entertain the public and then massed together for to march on the colours and do the act of rememberence. The evening went well considering there were no rehersals prior to the event and all bands should be congratulated on there performance. The night was finished off with a fine firework display.

Thursday 13th July 2006-----It was the turn of the Royal Black today and their annual demonstration in Scarva. The band led the Banbridge District first in a parade around the town and then in Scarva itself. Today the weather was much kinder to us. All had a good day and many members of the band had the usual aching limbs after two hard working days.

Wednesday 12th July 2006---Today the band accompanied the Loughbrickland Orange Order. After a short parade in Loughbrickland the band and lodge boarded buses for Gilford. It was a good but rather damp day in Gilford and everyone enjoyed themselves. It was then time to return to Loughbrickland where again we did a short parade and the ladies from the lodge barbecued steaks for us all. The band were well looked after and look forward to providing the music next year for the lodge.

Saturday 1st July 2006----The band proudly provided the Royal British Legion with the music needed for their annual Somme Parade. This was a special year as it was the 90th aniversary.

Sunday 25th June 2006----The band led the Orange Order in Scarva today. The weather stayed dry and it was a good day all round.

Saturday 17th  June 2006--Today the band performed light entertainment for the public at the Seapatrick Parish Annual Fete. The band sounded well even though we were short of numbers due to other commitments.  The Fete was well attended by the public and was a great success.

Sunday 23rd April 2006----The band led the annual scout parade in Dromore this year. It was a lovely warm day and the band and scouts looked well in the spring sunshine. Hopefully next year will be as nice.
